What have you changed in the original Capri-Sun recipe and why?
Original Capri-Sun has always been made from fruit juice and water with nothing artificial. We have now reduced the sugar content by 50% thanks to the introduction of a natural plant-based sweetener known as stevia. This change is good news as everyone can now enjoy Capri-Sun with reduced sugar content, without compromising on the great taste of our fruit juice drink.
What keeps the new recipe tasting good, with less sugar?
The new recipe for Original Capri-Sun contains at least 10% natural fruit juice, with a combination of sugar and stevia, a sweetener from a natural source. This combination is made with much less sugar, but doesn’t compromise on the great taste of our fruit juice drink.
Why do you still need to add sugar to original Capri-Sun if you are also using stevia?
Stevia is much sweeter than sugar, while containing zero calories, however it has a slight aftertaste so we still need to use some sugar in our recipe to make sure Original Capri-Sun tastes just as good as it ever did.
Now that original Capri-Sun is sweetened with stevia, can you still claim it contains ‘nothing artificial’?
Yes, Original Capri-Sun is still made without preservatives, artificial flavours, colours or sweeteners. We chose to use stevia in our new recipe because it is a sweetener from a natural source.
Is the new recipe better for my child than the original full-sugar version?
Health experts around the world recommend we consume less sugar and this recipe change is helping everyone who enjoys Capri-Sun to do that without compromising on taste. The new recipe for Original Capri-Sun contains 50% less sugar, reduced from over 10 grams per 100ml to 4.9 grams per 100ml. This reduction in sugar brings more choice to those who want to reduce their sugar intake, or that of their children, while still offering a drink that tastes great.
Will stevia replace any other low and no-calorie sweeteners used in the Capri-Sun range?
No Stevia is only currently being used in the NEW ‘original’ recipe

What is stevia?
Stevia, or Steviol Glycoside, is a zero-calorie sweetener extracted from the leaf of the stevia plant. Its leaf is a source of intense, natural sweetness - 200 times sweeter than table sugar - so a little goes a long way.
What is the difference between sugar and stevia?
Sugar is a naturally sourced product used to sweeten food and drinks, while stevia is a sugar substitute from a natural source that offers sweetness without any calories. By introducing stevia to the new recipe for Original Capri-Sun we have been able to reduce the sugar content from over 10 grams per 100ml to 4.9 grams per 100ml.
How many calories does stevia contain?
Stevia is a zero-calorie sweetener, so it doesn’t add any calories to the great taste of Original Capri-Sun.
Is stevia approved by regulatory authorities? Which ones?
Stevia has been approved for use as a sweetener by the European Food Safety Authority and the US Food and Drug Administration as well as numerous official organisations and independent scientific experts around the world on the basis of more than 25 years of scientific research. What is the sugar tax?
The sugar tax (or Soft Drinks Industry Levy) was announced by the UK Government in 2017 and is being introduced from April 2018. It taxes companies according to how much sugar is in their drinks. There are two categories for the tax; one tax on the total sugar content of drinks with more than 5g per 100ml and a higher tax for drinks with 8g per 100ml or more. The sugar content of all Capri-Sun beverages is less than 5g per 100ml therefore it is tax exempt.
